SOS Rosarno is a project born in January 2011, exactly one year after the revolt of Rosarno, on the initiative of some community organizations active in solidarity with immigrant seasonal laborers.Based on the belief that the tragedy of the uprising, lynchings and deportations of 2010They are only episodic symptom of a perverse mechanism strangling small-scale agriculture and condemns the immigrant laborers to the house of bondage, in a state of abandonment, segregation and degradation, SOS Rosarno has set itself the challenge of proving that an alternative route is possible that it starts by dialogue and collaboration ee alliance arrivals between small farmers / producers and laborers, in the sign of sustainability and multi-ethnic conviviality.Through collaboration with Purchase Solidarity Groups, community centers, associations and shops of fair trade and all over Italy, Rosarno SOS could give an economic base to this idea from a simple principle: the guarantee that all workers, immigrants or Italians, are regularly employed, with full pay and decent conditions, and that all products are organic, certified where possible and, in any case, cultivated in accordance with agro-ecology principles.Through the sale of products at a fair price - which means higher than market imposed by mass retailers - it will ensure an equitable wage for workers, a fair return to producers and a fair price to "consumActors". A share of the price of all the products goes to fund actually promoting the rights of the rural workers, or elsewhere in Calabria, solidarity projects with immigrants in the area, as well as projects in Italy and abroad in the name of food sovereignty and self-determination of local communities with a mutual spirit. A few months ago it was born the Cooperative Hands and Earth, consisting of Italian and African partners shareholders who, besides taking care of the cultivation of vegetable gardens from which will come the raw materials for processed, manages the marketing of products of the Campaign Sos Rosarno. The network also organizes at certain times of the year also of responsible tourism projects.
