Recognizable by the slightly rough and reddish peel (Conferred thanks to the high temperature range between day and night during the ripening period, a condition typical of the microclimate of the Plain of Catania) and by the red pigmentation of the pulp, rich in anthocyanins (They include many varieties of tarocco, moro and sanguinello, with availability from mid-December to mid-May).
